| Bodywork Modifications - August

After competing in last year's Dunlop Targa we realised
that our Almac Sabre S2 could benefit from some body
& mechanical modifications. These included...
- Fitting new fibreglass front spoiler and splitter
- Redesigning the gearbox mount (for quicker removal
of the gearbox)
- Fitting new alloy rear diffuser
- Replacing the side-skirts covering the exhausts
- Fitting a fibreglass hardtop & Lexan windows
- Adding alloy panels inside the cockpit
The new fibreglass spoiler was designed and
supplied by Almac Cars, and should result in better
downforce. We are also adding a marine ply splitter
(to be coated in black resin) which should help protect
the fibreglass and improve air-flow under the car. We
also used the opportunity to redesign the ducting for
more efficient airflow to and from the front mounted
radiator.
A redesigned gearbox mount was found necessary
when we discovered that the gearbox could not come out
without removing the entire engine (which also necessitated
the removal of the front bodywork, radiator, exhausts
etc). The gearbox needed to come out to replace the
clutch which had expired after Targa, but when we found
that a welded crossmember directly under the gearbox
didn't allow for its removal, we decided to cut out
the crossmember and replace it with an easily removable,
bolt-in mount - this is sure to save a lot of time on
future occasions.
